- WHO are you?
I am Dr. Berta Casar, principal investigator of the Transformation and Metastasis group.
- WHAT do you research?
I research new therapeutic targets and treatments to fight cancer.
- WHERE do you research?
I conduct research at the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC). University of Cantabria (UC) – Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
- WHEN do you plan to do your work?
I do my work every day.
- WHY is your work important?
My work is important because cancer research can have a real impact on the survival and quality of life of patients and society.
- Is your work related to any EU mission?
Yes, my work is related to the Cancer Mission: to save at least 3 million lives in Europe. In general terms, it aims to extend the life expectancy of cancer patients, achieve a better quality of life – also for survivors and their families – and consolidate mechanisms that prevent or delay the onset of the disease.
In my laboratory, we research to better understand the factors and molecular mechanisms that cause cancer, in order to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
