- WHO are you?
I am Miguel Ángel Martín Tardío, a computer scientist specialized in Telematic Engineering and a professor at the University of Extremadura in the Mérida University Center.
- WHAT do you research?
I research the design and deployment of wireless sensor networks oriented towards environmental monitoring. In recent years, I have also been interested in investigating how to teach computer science in schools as a means to develop computational thinking and digital competence in pre-university students.
- WHERE do you research?
I mainly conduct my work at the Mérida University Center and at the Dehesa Research Institute (INDEHESA) in Badajoz, where I store and test network devices, sensors, servers, etc.
- WHEN do you plan to do your work?
I work daily, balancing the preparation of my teaching in the degrees of Computer Engineering and Telematic Engineering in Telecommunications, with the completion of tasks in research projects (if any) or personal projects related to my research interests.
- WHY is your work important?
My work allows me to live my vocation, learn continuously, and contribute to society by putting my small contribution towards the development of our society. It provides me with autonomy, enjoyment of interacting with other people, and personal satisfaction when seeing the progress of my students.
- Is your work related to any EU mission?
Specifically, environmental monitoring would be related to the Climate Change Mission because it is related to all the tools that allow the registration and monitoring of physical parameters that affect the climate.
