Jose Manuel Montejo Bernardo, University of Oviedo
One night, I dreamed of being a researcher, and today I’m…
#HumansofSTEAM
Professor for school teachers. Don’t tell me it doesn’t sound awesome! And from time to time I take some dips in science popularization (which is one of the most addictive and healthy drugs I know). As a child, I always liked playing at being a scientist. I built myself a “laboratory” in the lower floor of my house (advantages of spending your childhood in a village) and with my two best friends, we prepared mixtures with colourful powdered rocks, looked all kinds of things through a plastic magnifying glass and we conducted experiments.
So of course I ended up studying chemistry. I did my doctoral thesis with the x-ray group analysing a drug’s pseudopolimorfs (here’s quite the word), working with concretes, fertilizers, and a bunch of weird molecules (named MOFs) and, because life works like that, nowadays my research focuses on finding ways and tools to get science closer to future teachers and the young scientists of tomorrow.
